Wow, week 1 is over! We had so much fun! Here are a few highlights!
Monday we made crystals of of charcoal, salt, bluing and ammonia. We were not sure that we did it right but on Tuesday we had crystals! We also learned about and made a volcano! Today was also our first day at the pool and it was wonderful! Miss Mary had the group vote on some leaders and these leaders helped us have our fist Tawanchi Tribunal! This allowed the youth to pick the snacks, songs and games we would play all week.
Tuesday the 4 – H Lady came to play with us! She taught us about flowers. We even got to plant flowers! Now Castle Manor is beautiful!
Wednesday was our day to visit with Doctor Kathy! She came to camp to teach us all about parasite and animals. We learned about worms. But it was cool! We would like to send congrats to our Junior Counselor Mr. Jacob for earning his driver’s license.
Thursday we went to Monkey Island to go fishing! It was hot but lots of fun. We also heard bugs living in one of our trees. unfortunately, the tree is dying. We caught four fish today! We let them go of course, but not before we got pictures. This was also the day that a mouse wandered into the boys bathroom. Miss Elaine handled it like a pro, she tried to kick out all the boys, gave up and caught the mouse with the help of a broom, dustpan, wastebasket and a camper named Zach! Miss Elaine and Zach set our mouse friend free under a pine tree and after a short rest he took off!
Friday was our last day of the first week. We used puffy paint and foamy letters to make our own Camp Tawanchi banners! We also learned about coprolites and guess what they are fossilized dinosaur poop! Cool! then we ended the week with our ceremonial. Each of us got an emblem for the week. Miss Elaine told us that we get one every week to put on the banners we made!
Memorable Quotes
*Miss Elaine, if the rule is I have to swim all the way across the pool to go in the deep end, how about if I swim half way from one side and half way from the other side?
*There is a Mouse in the boy’s bathroom! Seriously.
*Say what! We only get one corn dog?

Today is Saturday, June 2nd and the Camp Tawanchi Staff is here at the Camp Fire USA Office getting ready for day camp! We learned a lot about keeping the kiddies safe and we came up with some really cool ideas for this summer. Most of the counselors are coming back with one new person:) Here is who will be at Tawanchi this summer…
Miss Elaine– Wow! Thirty years of fun with campers! I am very excited about the great staff we have and the new ideas we shared. We are planning some fun activities like fishing and we have someone working on new bobbers so we can fish deeper! Watch out fish! We have a new idea called the Tawanchi Tribunal where the kids will get to vote on games, snacks and songs for the week! We also have an excellent group of CIT’s coming for training! Tell your friends and sign up today! Don’t forget our two car washes on June 9th and June 30th at Gurley Leep on Ireland Road from 11 to 1! All proceeds help the campers reduce their fee to camp and help other campers attend as well! It’s going to be a great year as we answer the question: “Where in the World is Camp Tawanchi?”
Miss Mary– (Assistant Director) This will be my 2nd year at Tawanchi and I can’t wait to start. Over the winter I worked at Moran Elementary with students. There I helped students with bully problems and friendship problems. See you June 11:):)
Mr Josh — This will be my 2nd year as a counselor at Camp Tawanchi. I went as a camper for many years starting in the 3rd grade. I just finished my freshman year at Purdue in West Lafayette. BOILER UP! Can’t wait until camp starts to see everyone!
Miss Virginia — This is also my 2nd year as a counselor, but I was a camper here for as long as I can remember. I love the time I spend each summer here and would LOVE to share it with all of you! See you all soon!
Miss Sarah: I have just graduated from Penn High School and am looking forward to Camp Tawanchi! I love animals and the outdoors and know I will love working with the children!
Miss Mike- I’m new at Camp Tawanchi. I work at Moran Elementary and look forward to seeing all of you the first day of camp!
